Deputy Chief Medical Officer: Health Protection

Secondment — Consultant Grade & Salary* — London

This is an opportunity to work at the highest levels of health policy, providing senior clinical advice directly to the Chief Medical Officer, Ministers, and decision-makers.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the principal medical adviser to the UK Government, focusing on public and global health. She sits within the Department of Health, but is an independent appointment and works across Government and the international health system to pro-vide high-level policy advice and leadership. In addition to this post, the CMO’s work is supported by two ‘Deputy CMOs’ who are senior clinical leaders in their own right.

The advertised DCMO role covers the full range of health protection issues, including: immunisation; antimicrobial resistance; influenza; infectious diseases; emergency preparedness and response; and envi-ronmental hazards. The post-holder(s) will provide senior clinical and public health advice in these areas to the CMO, Ministers, and policy teams, and represent the Department of Health on relevant national and international bodies.

This role is available for full-time applicants, or part-time as a job share arrangement. The initial appointment will be for two years, and it is expected that the successful candidate(s) will come on secondment from their current institution. Job-share applicants may wish to retain a portion of their time in their current role (if relevant). Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

To apply or further information is available on Civil Service Jobs (CSJ) by clicking on the apply button.

Closing date: 8am Tuesday, 2 May 2017. Interview date: Friday, 23 June 2017.

*If medically qualified the individual will be appointed to the point of the consultant salary scale for England appropriate to their years of seniority or (if from a background other than medicine) to an equivalent grade. See CSJ for detail.
