The Department of Urology at Ashford & St Peter’s NHS Trust (ASPH) seeks to appointment a full-time Consultant Urologist. ASPH is a busy District General Hospital providing urology services to a 450,000 population. The Department comprises a seven strong Consultant workforce with two Trust grade doctor, two Specialist Registrars and four full-time Urology Nurse Practitioners.
The Department operates a fully Consultant-led and delivered on-call service (1 in 7 weeks). A centralised dedicated unit is based on the St Peter’s Hospital site. All diagnostic and operative treatments are delivered through this unit which includes an onsite lithotripter. The newly appointed Consultant will be expected to work as part of a eight consultant team.
Main duties will also include both diagnostic and elective general urological surgical procedures and involvement in the on call service. The post would suit someone with an interest in junior doctor education, community urology and local anaesthetic, day case urology.
An expectation for good team working and multi-disciplinary engagement is a pre-requisite. ASPH is an important centre for Core surgical and Urological training and teaching will be an important part of the successful applicant’s professional duties.
ASPH has a fully staffed interventional radiology department that provides cover 7 days-a- week. A comprehensive vascular, colorectal, upper GI, and breast surgical service is included in the surgical directorate. The urology team also provides support to the gynaecological and obstetric services that are based on the St Peter’s site.
