Applications are invited for a substantive consultant post to enhance the Ophthalmology Surgery service in our large department that covers a population of approximately one million. The post-holder will be expected to join the current Vitreoretinal Surgeons in providing a dedicated sub-specialty service.
The Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is responsible for the provision of ophthalmology services for the people of Mid and West Kent. General and sub-speciality ophthalmology services are provided at the Eye, Ear, and Mouth Unit (EEMU), a modern, purpose- built facility attached to Maidstone Hospital, with outpatient facilities provided at Tunbridge Wells, Medway Maritime, Sittingbourne, Sevenoaks, and Edenbridge Hospitals in a “hub and spoke” model.
The department has a busy rapid-access, outpatients, optometric and orthoptic departments. There are two dedicated ophthalmic operating theatres at Maidstone and a shared theatre at Tunbridge Wells. Research interests are supported by active links with the University of Kent at Canterbury and the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network.
Residence requirements for this post are compatible with living in the outskirts of London, or in one of the many attractive parts of rural Kent.
