Consultants in Emergency Medicine
Applications are invited for three permanent Consultant posts in Emergency Medicine based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff – the flagship hospital in Wales in terms of emergency and tertiary services.
The Emergency Unit is at the heart of UHW, providing emergency care for patients across the Cardiff and Vale area. The Unit has recently undergone a major rebuild which provides 7 Resus bays (including one dedicated paediatric bay) streaming, ambulatory, majors and minors areas.
It is envisaged that a comprehensive service will be developed that encourages innovative ways of working while meeting the immediate and growing needs of the population in a modern and appropriate environment. A whole system approach will mean that patients requiring emergency care will be provided where it is most appropriate whilst balancing this against clinical effectiveness. Reconfiguration of Emergency services is being discussed in the South Wales Plan and separate to this are proposals for the development of a major trauma centre in Wales.
We are looking to significantly expand our Consultant body over the next five years with an aim of starting to develop a major trauma network. The Unit already boasts a significant ENP Service and due to the success of this role, the Unit introduced a 24/7 ANP service to support the Medical Teams. We are developing an Academic focus within the unit with the recent appointment of Professor Rainer and our first academic trainee.
By joining our team now, you will be on board at the beginning of the journey and you will be able to influence the vital decisions that will shape the future of Emergency Services in Cardiff andVale .
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
