Consultant in Clinical Genetics
Applications are invited for this 0.8 time Consultant appointment. This is a replacement post due to retirement of the current consultant in neurogenetics, based at the Regional Genetic Service within the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine (MCGM). You will lead delivery of the paediatric neuromuscular and neurogenetic service within the neurogenetic team.
This post offers the opportunity to work in a functionally autonomous department within a major teaching and research institute, adjacent to one of the largest University Campus’s in Western Europe and in collaboration with the largest Undergraduate Medical School in the United Kingdom.
The Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine has been providing specialist adult and paediatric genetic services for primary muscle and peripheral nervous system disorders for over 20 years. The neuromuscular genetic team consists of clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors and more recently an adult neurologist, incorporating both clinical and laboratory services. There are close links with both adult and paediatric neurology services. A paediatric neurology/genetic/radiology MDT meeting is held monthly. In addition to clinics delivered at St Mary’s there are monthly adult neurogenetic clinics and monthly paediatric neurogenetic clinics held at Preston Royal and Royal Blackburn hospitals respectively.
The appointee to the current post will be expected to demonstrate intent to contribute to this research and innovation agenda through development of his/her own projects either as principal investigator or in collaboration with others. In the medium term we envisage an increasing role for the department in clinical trials and experience in this area would be welcomed. Additional time for research/clinical trials may be negotiated over time.
CCT in clinical genetics with demonstrable interest in and experience of neurogenetics is required for this post. An MD, or similar postgraduate qualification, in a related subject would also be desirable.
The successful candidate will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
