Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

A replacement Consultant Neurologist post is being advertised at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, to join the existing team of six Consultants. The Department provides Neurological services for Grampian (population 526,000) Orkney (population 21,000) and Shetland (population 22,000) as well as providing out-of- hours and educational support for the Neurology Department at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness (population of Highland Region 320,000).

The Neurology Department shares inpatient facilities with the Department of Neurosurgery (five Consultants), supported by Neuroradiology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuro-Pathology, Liaison Psychiatry etc. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a teaching hospital with strong links to two Universities in Aberdeen and so there are excellent opportunities for successful applicants to develop teaching and research interests.

This is a replacement post for a Consultant who is retiring and is based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. It is envisaged that a full-time appointee will be employed on a 10 PA session (8plus 2)  contract and will undertake three neurology outpatient clinics per week including a subspecialty clinic/s. The sub-speciality area of preference is an interest in Epilepsy.

Depending on the candidate’s area of interest, an additional/alternative sub specialist interest may be considered.

The appointee(s) will take part in an on-call rota on a pro-rata basis. Currently full-time members of staff provide cover for in-patients and emergencies 1 week in 5 and do evening and weekends on call 2 in 11. The appointee(s) will contribute to undergraduate teaching, postgraduate education, training and supervision of Neurology ST doctors, departmental administration.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
