A new and exciting post in Integrated Respiratory Medicine for West Berkshire

Voted one of Britain’s 100 best places to work, the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust delivers acute medical and surgical care to around half a million people. Having achieved Foundation status in 2006, we are going from strength to strength and working closely with the local CCGs and have ambitious plans for the future.

This is a new post, created to enable delivery of integrated respiratory care as defined by the British Thoracic Society: ‘To provide safe and effective care by the most appropriate health professional at the optimal time and in the most appropriate environment’.

Within the Royal Berkshire Hospital, the Respiratory Medicine Department provides a comprehensive range of services spanning general, sleep, urgent (cancer), TB, asthma and COPD, as well as managing 52 beds.

Within the Community there is an existing community respiratory service and stakeholder network group.

Your remit will lead you to engage community respiratory services and primary care providers to ensure seamless delivery and joined-up thinking. In particular, you will offer wide-ranging training and consultancy to diverse colleagues, including community respiratory and oxygen specialisms, and set up virtual clinics in GP surgeries alongside respiratory pharmacists. In addition you will cover inpatient, outpatient and acute care within the acute hospital.

To be equal to the challenge, you should be on the specialist register or within six months of attaining a CCT for Respiratory and GIM, and you will bring extensive experience of your discipline. Familiarity with integrated care pathways would be useful, as would a strong record of publication, and you should be well versed in clinical governance, good medical practice and auditing. Above all, you should be an analytical problem solver and an inspiring leader who can bring teams together and operate across boundaries to exceed patients’ expectations.
