We are excited to be offering a full time Consultant position working in our Emergency Department (ED) at Musgrove Park Hospital, which has Trauma Unit status as part of the Severn Trauma Network. The department has been expanded and refurbished and has a high quality 4 bed resuscitation room, dedicated paediatric resuscitation area, gantry x-ray, and a 12 bed majors area.

Our ambitious and enthusiastic ED Consultant team includes the National Advisor (A&E) NHS England and the RCEM Director for Revalidation. As part of this team, who actively contribute to peer reviewed research publications and are involved in a number of ongoing projects, you will have plenty of room for developing your specialty interests. We are the South West’s highest scored Trust for training by the GMC National Training Survey, with our own onsite academy linked to the University of Bristol. We are confident we can offer you one of the best environments to develop your career, along with enhancing our patient care with the skills you bring.

In addition to this, you will get to experience life in the West Country.

Nestled in the heart of Somerset is the County town, Taunton. Taunton has recently been named as one of the new ‘Garden Towns’, this combines the best of both town and country life in one place.

If you like the outdoors, nearby you will find numerous cycling challenges. From gentle cycle routes through the Somerset Levels, to challenging climbs in the Quantock Hills. Britain’s biggest gorge, Cheddar Gorge, has a world-class centre for climbers and offers over 1000 climbing routes. For watersport activities including sailing and windsurfing, look no further than the idyllic Wimbleball Lake. Straddled between areas of outstanding natural beauty and the idyllic rolling hills of Exmoor, there is plenty to keep you occupied.

Taunton also has a diverse range of shopping and restaurants, hosting a number of arts and food festivals. Alternatively, Taunton is home to the Somerset County Cricket ground regularly hosting international fixtures. You can also take advantage of easy access to some of the UK’s most desirable locations, from the beaches of North Devon and Cornwall, to the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol, Bath, and Exeter.

Somerset offers some of the best schools in the country. Ranging from Public institutions such as Millfield, Queen’s College, Taunton School, King’s College, Wellington School and Blundell’s just across the border in Devon, to award winning state schools such as the Richard Huish College which has been ranked in the top 10 of A-level providers nationally for the last eight years, through to secondary schools ranking in the top 5% nationally such as The Castle school.

With great educational opportunities, an abundance of open country side, cultural festivals and local traditions, we think there is nowhere better. Throw in a cost of living that will see you afford a higher quality of life, and significantly lower than the national average crime rate, we like to think we can offer you the best of both worlds, professionally, and personally.
