This is a new post for a Consultant to join our team of 11 other established Consultant Physicians to support the development of our Frailty and ED interface that is currently a nurse liaison service. This post is to improve on our already high performing team which has already been highly commended in the local awards within a year of implementation.
St Helens and Knowsley Hospital NHS Trust is a busy and popular hospital, serving a population of 350,000. St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is the only acute Trust in the country to have performed above the national average in every indicator for quality of services and care in the Care Quality Commission (CQC) assessment (2010).
The Trust continues to be successful in providing high standards of services and care with high level of patient safety CQC assessment. It was rated as ‘EXCELLENT’ for 7 years running in the Patient Environment Action team (PEAT) assessments for both Whiston and St Helens Hospitals.
The Trust is one of the most sought after teaching venues for students from the University of Liverpool and attracts high quality, enthusiastic trainees. The department has a high profi le within the Medical Care Group with a very successful Stroke service and Frailty service. There are 6 consultants with special interest in Stroke participating in a hyper acute service on the Whiston Hospital site. We also have a fully established Frailty Unit which is currently supported by 3 Geriatricians. The new appointee will work alongside the Frailty team to provide ED interface and also have a generic geriatrics ward base.
The applicant will be part of the 1 in 9 Department of Medicine for Older People (DMOP) weekend on call rota and a nominal Physician of the Day (POD) rota for general medicine for the Medical Care Group. Although this is a 10 PA job a formal job plan will be completed soon after the appointment of the successful candidate.
Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialty Register or be within 6 months of achieving their CCT from date of interview.
This post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure with Adults barred lists.
