Consultant Paediatric Radiologist
We are delighted to advertise a Radiology post at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital to support the increasing demand for paediatric imaging within the Central Manchester Foundation Trust.
This is a replacement post and you will join a team of paediatric radiologists working closely within multi-disciplinary teams. Development of sub-specialist interests is actively encouraged. Greater Manchester is currently going through an exciting reconfiguration of services to it’s local population and beyond.
This job presents an exciting opportunity to help develop world class services within an expanding and successful trust.
Central Manchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust (CMFT) was established in 2001 by the merger of Central Manchester and Manchester Children’s Hospital Trusts. In January 2009 the Trust achieved Foundation Status and CMFT is now one of the largest trusts in the country.
The Trust completed a £450M capital development which has seen the rebuilding St Marys Hospital for Women, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and the relocation of the Children’s Hospital to the Central Manchester site. In April 2012 Trafford General Hospital became part of CMFT and radiology services over the 2 sites are delivered by a single Radiology Directorate.
Recent developments within Greater Manchester will allow for closer working relationships between CMFT, South Manchester University Hospitals Trust and North Manchester General leading to opportunities for service development and research between the departments.
The Trust provides secondary and tertiary services to a population in the North West of England of up to 5 million.
The Radiology Department at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is housed in a modern 20 room development and includes A 128 Slice CT, a 1.5T MR unit and a business cases for a further MR scanner is currently in progress. There is a dedicated paediatric gamma camera, a three room ultrasound suite, 1 angiographic room and 1 screening room.
Manchester is also installing the first Proton Beam Therapy service in the UK at The Christie’s hospital, for which 2 Pas are being allocated from our service.
There are close links with the Manchester Regional Radiology Training Scheme which is responsible for the training of over 70 trainees up to 18 of whom work within the Trust at any one time. Strong links with Manchester University for research are encouraged through the links with Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC).
The appointee is expected to have good communication skills and the ability to work as a team member within a dedicated tertiary referral unit and to participate fully within the trust Consultant appraisal scheme and Royal College Radiologists CPD/CME programme.
Applicants are required to be on the specialist register of the RCR before taking up the Consultant appointment.
